History

Manningford Bruce is an ancient parish that was merged with neighbouring Manningford Bohune and Manningford Abbots to form the village that’s now called Manningford.

In 1275, Manningford Bruce was known as Manningford Petri for its connection to the FitzPeter family. It was only by 1279 that the settlement was referred to as its current name which was taken from the new lords, the Breuse family.
There is archaeological evidence available to prove that the area was occupied during prehistoric times, specifically from the Neolithic to the Romano-British periods.
