Fugglestone St Peter used to be a small village or civil district in Wilton. The ancient district of Fugglestone contained three rivers. It is said that King Ethelbert was buried in Fugglestone is 827. By the end of 1894, the civil parish was downfallen. The settlement still dwells within the domains of Wilton. The area was later developed into a medieval suburb of Wilton. In 1831, the population of Fugglestone was just 515.

In the middle ages, there used to be a leper clinic called Hospital of St Giles –it was located in the region which is now bordered by the park of Wilton House. The hospital was found by Adelicia, the queen of Henry I.

A church of St. John the Evangelist has been built in Fugglestone as a memorial to George Herbet in 1860. The other two churches, built in the memory of St. Peter and St. Andrew still exists in Fugglestone. St. Peter was built back in the thirteenth century and it still remains today. It stands at the crossing of two roads –Wilton and Salisbury. There is an organ in St. Peters which works manually.

During the seventeenth century, a poet and priest –George Herbert was the pastor of St. Peter’s Fugglestone. Between the years 1631 to 1633, Herbert used to preach regularly and that’s when he wrote his famous “The Country Parson” and many other famous poems which are still read and appreciated by many people. St Peter’s church is only used on an occasional basis during the summer season for evensong. Otherwise, the church remains unpopulated.

Fugglestone St. Peter is in the East of Wilton, only a mile away. In 1851, the almshouses of Fugglestone were transformed into cottages on the north side of Warminster Road. These cottages are now known as “St Giles’ Hospital”. In 1801 and in 1851 the population of Fugglestone was just over 500, but then by 1894, the population raised to 1060. In the same year, from the consequences resulting from September 30, the civil parish is entirely vanished. And it was divided into town of Wilton and a new district of Bemerton. In this era, sixteen houses along with forty-six parishioners were transferred to Wilton. And the rest were sent to Bemerton.

Till 1920s, a farm known as “Fugglestone Farm” covered 600 acres of land. Though, the buildings were exterminated to make way for Army's Erskine Barracks. By the end of 1949, Fugglestone Farmhouse was confiscated by the War Office as the headquarters of British Army’s Southern Command. Resultantly, the remaining fields and other buildings of Fugglestone Farm were thereafter managed from a farm called Fugglestone Red Buildings.
