HISTORY

Holywell Green is mentioned in the Domesday Book where it's listed as “a small hamlet within the township of Stainland.” Holywell Green was indeed the name given to the area located on the east side of Stainland. The village is built around Stainland Road and Station Road and is situated on an east-facing hill. Both Holywell Green and Stainland have been conjoined after West View and Bradley View were built.

The name Holywell Green is taken from St Helen's Well which was popular in the area during medieval times. The original location of the Holy Well is uncertain.
