The Birmingham Canal Navigations’ tame valley canal runs from Piercy Aqueduct at Hamstead through Great Barr. It passes through a cutting in a 200-million year old sandstone under Tower Hill’s Freeth bridge through A34, into the Perry Barr’s Perry Bar Locks.

The Beaufort Arms is Great Barr’s local pub serving food and drinks. It is set out as one long room with a bar area on one side and a dining area in another.
