Once a distinct village, Amington now belongs to the district of Tamworth in the county of Staffordshire. Its neighbouring villages are Bolehall, Glascote, Glascote Heath and Stonydelph. Interestingly, there is little to divide Amington from the other villages close to it.

Both Amington and Stonydelph formed one township in the past, but in 1932 Amington became part of Tamworth Rural District. By 1965, the village became part of Tamworth Borough.
