Wayford is noted for the Wayford Manor House, and Wayford Woods with its lovely ornamental lake and large collection of fairy doors. Wayford is located in Somerset county, on the southwest region of England. This tiny village contains only 114 people, but is a popular destination for a day trip.

Wayford Manor house features beautifully manicured gardens. The entrance to the estate has four carefully tended shrubs to represent the four suits in a deck of cards: hearts, spades, diamonds, and clubs. Wayford Manor is an Elizabethan home built out of stone in the 1600s. It’ll take time to explore the many sites of the garden. There are a large variety of plant species, and carefully crafted topiary bushes. The garden is full of trees and plants. The lawn is immaculately cared for, along with flowering shrubs.

Wayford Manor is a country house and garden, set on four acres of land. It’s believed that there was an original building on site, before it was torn down to make room for the Manor. The house had an additional north wing built in 1900. Howard Peto started work on many of the gardens in 1902. Many of the trees present today were originally grown in the 1930s. There are gardens with a variety of different themes. The Arts and Crafts garden is the most recent, with the Elizabethan, Japanese Garden, and rock garden being worth a look too. Spring and early summer are the best time to see the gardens in full bloom.

Somerset Woods is host to hundreds of fairy doors installed at the bases of the trees. These tiny doors are on hinges, and actually open up. Many travellers leave notes for the fairies. Visitors may find tiny fairy furniture inside.The council has started removing many of the more damaged or glitzy ones, citing concern for the welfare of the trees. But you can still go for a stroll and spot many of them.

The woodlands are located on over 29 acres of land, and are protected by a charitable trust. Besides the woods, there is a stream, a meadow perfect for a picnic, and ornamental lake. The trust prefers that people stick to the paths.

The small town of Wayford is managed by a parish council. They’re responsible for managing environmental issues, as well as the trees, listed buildings, markets, and fairs. The Crewkerne Fair is in the region of Wayford and hosts a once a year street festival event. Flowers, fruit, vegetables, crafts, and art can be purchased from the stalls.

There’s one church located on site. The Church of St. Michael, which was built around the 13th century. It’s currently designated as a listed building by the English Heritage Trust.
