HISTORY

In A History of the County of Somerset: Volume 7, Bruton, Horethorne and Norton Ferris Hundreds, Milborne Port's name is derived from “the stream which flows south through Milborne Wick and Kingsbury Regis.” The addition of “Port” came in 1249 signifying it as an important market town.

There are prehistoric features and finds in the north of the village on an Iron Age hill fort on Barrow Hill. Milborne Port was also an important mint town during the Saxon times.
