Formerly known as Kingsbrompton, the village of Brompton Regis is also a civil parish located in the West Somerset district. The History of Brompton Regis

Little is known about the village before the arrival of William the Conqueror in 1066. A manor that resided on the property was held by a Gytha Thorkelsdottir and was seized by the Norman king upon his conquest of England. The parish of Withiel Florey which was part of the Taunton Deane Hundred co-existed with Brompton Regis at the time which was part of the Williton and Freemanners Hundred.
However, by the late 12th century, Brompton Regis was given to William de Say who also founded Barlynch Priory located in the western part of the parish. By the 13th century, the property had been passed to the Besil family and they subsequently built the Motte and Bailey castle which is located near the hamlet of Bury.
Over the centuries, the village of Brompton Regis grew steadily thanks to Gupworthy being the terminus of the West Somerset Mineral Railway that ran from the ironstone mines located in the Brendon Hills all the way to the port of Watchet found on the Bristol Channel.

Today, Brompton Regis retains much of the ancient structures that were constructed over the centuries, including the Bury Bridge over the River Haddeo which was a packhorse bridge in medieval times. The village itself reflects a remarkable character that combines the ancient structures with modern conveniences.
