The name appeared as Wroch Wurthin 1169 and as Wrockwurthin in the reports of 1196. The literal meaning of the world is ‘Homestead by the Wrekin’.
The village grew overtime gradually with the development of brick cottages and refinement of old buildings. After the late 18th century, the village flourished and the population doubled. After 1920 with the construction of new market areas, the size of the village grew immensely. Then, the establishment of a primary school at Wrockwardine gained the village noticeable popularity overtime. Today, the village is a thriving settlement of historic buildings and modern trends.

The major landmark of this small village is St. Peter’s Church. This church is thought to be existing from the Saxon ages. The Doomsday Book 1068 has recorded the existence of this church from a long time ago. Over the years, there have been significant changes to the church. However, from the 14th Century, few major alterations were made which makes the building appealing to the tourists who are interested in English history.

The Alms-Houses is another source of attraction for the tourists and a landmark in this mesmerizing village. It were built in 1841 for the betterment of two declining women. Since then, the Alms-Houses has become an iconic building in Wrockwardine.

Another building which has gained noticeable fame for Wrockwardine is Wrockwardine Wood Holy Trinity. This trinity was built and consecrated in 1833 and was primarily the part of St. Peter’s Church. The chapel gained a separate identity after the mid-1850.

Different modern religious practices are held in the St. Peter’s Church to promote brotherhood.
