Rushbury is a small village and civil parish located in Shropshire. It is located about 8 miles from the town of Much Wenlock and about 5 miles from the town of Church Stretton. There is a debate over the etymology of the name Rushbury. It was considered that this village got its name from the famous Rush Manor for a long period of time. But, recently some historians suggest that Rushbury got its name from the Old English word risc which means a place where rushes grow and the Old English word burh which means a fortified place.
Just like almost all other places in Shropshire, this area was inhabited since Neolithic age and there is archeological evidence of an Iron Age hill fort next to Rushbury. The first written record about Rushbury, Shropshire dates from 1086 (Domesday book). In this book, Rushbury was described as a place with very fertile ground and that explains the high number of people living in this place at that time. Most of them were farmers. It is interesting to mention that even today, most of the population in this village is working in agriculture industry. This village has a population of 603 according to the last 2001 census.

The church of St. Peter

Although there is no solid evidence about the date when this church was constructed, historians believe that it was built during the Saxon times. The first time when someone refered to this church as St. peter church was in the 18th century. Between the 16th and 18th century this church was part of the Rushbury manor. In 1855, the church was renovated. In 1921, the church got a clock on the tower. The church clock was placed in honor of parish men who fought and died in WWI. There is also a wall tablet inside the church that honors the men who died in WWII. This is a grade II listed building since 1954.
