History

Leebotwood is one of the settlements in the parish and the only recognisable one left. Its parish church, St. Mary’s has been established way back in the 12th century and it is also were the local lords of the manor, the Corbett family of Longnor Hall are buried. It used to be covered with forest, referred to as “Botwde” or “Bottewode” up until the medieval times.  It was given to the Augustinanian canons who had a chapel at Lega which was the story behind the changing of its name to “Lega in Bottewode” and later to “Leebotwood”.
