The village of Woodstock, situated in Oxfordshire, has a long and interesting history from its charter granted by King Henry II in 1179 to the imprisonment of Queen Elizabeth by her sister, Mary Queen of Scots. It is also the birth place of Winston Churchill. The village is known for Blenheim Palace that you can walk through to see all the changes in the village over the years and learn more about the various historical figures associated who lived in the palace.

The grounds of the palace encourage the visitor to sit in the gardens and enjoy the statues that are placed in and around the palace. The landscape on the grounds was designed when the castle was built and have continued to retain the history of the palace.

King Henry is rumored to have kept a small zoo of animals on the property in 1010, the name meaning a clearing in the woods. The first Earl of Marlborough as born on the property, and was lovingly known as the Earl of Woodstock.

If you like horseback riding the property is also known for its riding trails in and around the village. The trails lead the rider through a pleasant ride in the woods. The area of the trails permits small picnics for those who enjoy an outdoor snack.

The village boasts of its history the roads wind around and the visitor can see the history of the architecture in the area many of the buildings were built around the castle and remain in use today. There are jousting events, annual Christmas fairs and outdoor concerts.

Instead of an Easter egg hunt the town has a pumpkin hunt. Pumpkins are hidden and children hunt the pumpkins. After the pumpkin hunt the village has pubs that are almost as old as the village itself you can stop in and grab a pint and listen to the villagers talk about the town.
