The history of this place begins in the 12th century or the Anglo-Saxon era to be more precise. Back in those days Little Faringdon was part of a large estate that included Faringdon (now a town located close to Little Faringdon). This area was a property of Beaulieu Abbey, a Cistercian abbey with great influence in this region. With the so-called Dissolution of the Monasteries imposed by the Crown, this area became part of the Crown’s property in 1538. Several notable families were holding this manor in the past. Bourchier and Perrott families held it in the 16th century. In the 19th century it was sold to Charles Ponsonby, 2nd Baron de Mauley and a British peer and Liberal politician. He was member of the Parliament for Pool and for Dungarvan for 11 years. Mr. Ponsonby’s descendants hold this manor even today.

Just like many other places in this region, the church in the village is the main attraction. St. Margaret’s Church was built in the 12th century which means that it is build in a Norman style. What make this parish church interesting are the lancet windows in the chancel. There were few changes made after the church was built. Windows, porches, doors and arcades are some of those changes. Today this church is labeled as a Grade II* listed building.

Since the village is located very close to Faringdon town most of the people living there or those who are visiting Little Faringdon have trips to Faringdon. This is the place where people can see the Buscot House (a house with a beautiful garden and park) and the Great Coxwell Barn (a cavernous medieval barn located on the edge of Faringdon). Furthermore, those who love history will find Faringdon Folly Tower and Woodland really interesting. This medieval tower once had a different purpose and today it is used as an excellent place for panoramic view of the Thames River valley.
