In 1944 during the World War 2 a horrifying accident happened in this area - a bomber that belonged to the Canadian Air Force caught fire. Most of the crew escaped, but the flying officer and the sergeant decided to stay on board in order to steer the plane outside populated areas and crashed the plane into the fields close to Crowmarsh.

St. Mary Magdalene Church

This is one of the oldest churches in this region and one of the few dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene. It was built in the early 12th century. This church was used as a shelter by the forces of King Stephen in the 12th century and by Cromwell’s forces during the Civil War. The building itself was renovated several times and the most thorough renovations took place in the 19th century.

Mongewell Park

This park is located just 2 miles from Crowmarsh Gifford. It was once used by Shute Barrington who was the Bishop of Llandaff in the 18th century. This place was used for many different things in the past two centuries and today it includes several listed buildings. 

The Obelisk

At the junction of Andrew Road and Wilding Road near Wallingford there is an obelisk in honor of the two Canadian soldiers who lost their lives during WW2.
