The village of Bix is a civil parish located in the county of Oxfordshire, which is in England. It lies in the Chiltern Hills which is 430 feet above sea level and is roughly 2.5 miles away from Henley-on-Thames. Bix used to be two separate villages: Bix Gibwyn and Bix Brand. In the Domesday Book of 1086, these two villages were referred to as Byxe and Bixa. It even recorded Bixa as part of Binfield’s Hundred.

    The Saint James Parish Church is the original church of Bix Brand and was made using Normal architecture. The church contains many Norman lancet windows as well as a chancel and nave. However, this church was one mile north from the centre of the village. So in 1874, the Church of England parish church was built closer to the village’s centre by architect John Gibson. This newer church also honours Saint James as well and people took a quick liking to its new north aisle, chancel, nave and transept. One year later in 1875, the older church became abandoned because people started going to the new church. The old church would eventually become overgrown with vegetation and left in ruins. On a side note, the 1971 British film “The Blood on Satan’s Claw” was filmed at the old church. Years later in 2015, the ruins were preserved through the Heritage Lottery Fund.
