The church structure has an octagon church spire and was originally built in the 15th century, with significant restorations done in 1864.

In the early history of the village, the Scrooby Quarry was once used for excavation of Sherwood sandstone and gravel. With its location on the River Ryton, there are ample opportunities to enjoy flora and fauna, as well as fishing. The village is within a lowland landscape between the Pennines and the eastern coast of England, with a landscape known for root vegetables and dairy farming. The village commons are known as The Winz and there are three main walking footpath routes that go through Scrooby, as well as a gardening and bird watching club.
