Barnstone is a small yet thriving village in the heart of England. It lies in Nottinghamshire and forms a part of Langar and Barstone parish. Barnstone has its borders joined with Leicestershire. Until the 19th Century, the village name spellings were ‘Barnston’. Barnstone had a railway station from 1879 to 1953 which ran great traffic to the limestone side-lines.

History

The Barnstone chapel predates from the 11th century as it has been recorded in a dispute described by the Archbishop of York. This reflects that the village has been present since the early medieval ages. Research and expeditions also show that this rural settlement might have been present from the Roman Ages. The village has been recorded in the Doomsday Book. However, this village has gained noticeable fame due to its famous cement works which started in the 1885.

The church was rebuilt by Thomas Dickinson in the late 1855. The church has a lot of sittings and can hold 100 people at a time. The Barnstone Lodge is also one of the most famous attractions of this village. With the first tenant in 1855, this lodge has been used to hold formal parties, has been used as a meeting spot by different clubs and also to hold feasts for the inhabitants of this village.

Another landmark of this remote yet mesmerizing village is the Country Club. This country club has always been the heart of the village’s social life. This was previously the Barnstone Cement Works Social Club and the employees from the most famous cement company in Barnstone used to gather and indulge themselves in fun activities.
