History

A great defeat occurred in Carham in 1018. The men of Northumbria were defeated by the forces of Malcolm, King of Alban, who was aided by Eugenius the Bold, King of the Brythons.

The village's first recorded owner was Walter Espec. He gave the entire village, including the church to the Priory of Kirkham in the 12th century.

Carham is also the site where Sir John Lilburn was defeated by the Scots in 1370.
