History

Cotterstock is listed in the Domesday Book as Codestoche which may be derived from the Old English “corther-stoc” which means dairy farm.

A Romano-British villa was discovered in the summer of 1736 when a tesserae from a large mosaic pavement was uncovered during ploughing. The villa was relocated by aerial photography during the summer of 1976.

Cotterstock Hall – a where the film The Woman in Black starring Daniel Radcliffe was set. This 17th-century mansion was put on sale in 2014. The house has a bit of history as well since the poet John Dryden stayed in the attic during the last two years of his life.  

The Church of St Andrew – located on the east of the village adjacent to the River Nene. The church dates back to the late 12th century but the main construction period was during the 13th to 14th centuries.

The Old Mill – built during the 19th century.
