History

The village of Escrick was known as Ascri during the medieval period which translates to Ash Ridge. It was known as it is today in 1600.

Sir Henry Thompson developed Escrick as an Estate Village when he acquired the village and hall in 1668. Henry's estate was inherited in 1742 by his great grandson Beilby Thompson. Under his ownership, the village stretched towards York and the church was moved from its original location to where it stands today: on York Road.
