HISTORY

The origin of the village can be traced back to the 17th century.

Prior to 1975, the town of Condorrat was considered part of the Cumbernauld Burgh and Dunbartonshire County. When local government was re-organised in 1975, the town became part of Cumbernauld & Kilsyth District Council and Strathclyde Regional Council. It was only in 1995 when the town was put under the newly created North Lanarkshire Council.

Condorrat used to be a weaving community and some traces of that history exist in the group of single-storey houses called Braehead Cottages, but the cottages now have modern touches to them.

ATTRACTIONS

A few really interesting attractions can be found in Condorrat, and these include:

John Baird's House – a 19th-century nationalist figure who was born in town. He was a leading participant in the Radical War of 1820. The house in which he was born is located on Airdrie Road, and there is a plaque mounted outside to commemorate him.

Braehead Cottages – these are single-storey homes that are remnants from when Condorrat was a weaving community. Although now modernised, they are still worth a look.

Dalshannon Farm – found on the west end of the village. The farm is a great example of a 17th-century long house. The long house that stands today though has been raised and a two-storey block was added to the north-west corner.
