HISTORY

In 1145, William d'Albini who is of Norman origin founded the Castle. The town was built around this castle for the purpose of services and labour. Today, only the motte, bailey and ruined keep exist and the original size of the castle is around the same area covered by the remains.

Queen Elizabeth I granted a Town Charter to New Buckenham giving the town permission to stage markets and fairs. This practice still exists to this day with the August Bank Holiday fete held each year.
