Flower Delivery to Great Yarmouth with Clare Florist
Known as Yarmouth to the locals, Great Yarmouth is a premier beach resort in Norfolk. Since 1760, it has been a seaside resort, making it an ideal spot for families and tourists to converge. As a coastal town in the mouth of the River Yare, Yarmouth is the gateway to the North Sea.
It used to have a flourishing fishing industry, with herring fisheries operating for hundreds of years. Unfortunately, it suffered a decline in the second half of the 20th century and eventually closed down. It was then replaced by an oil rig supply industry, following the discovery of oil in the North Sea during the 1960s.
Due to its strategic location, Yarmouth attracted fishermen from the Cinque Ports that started a permanent settlement. There were 70 burgesses in town, until Herny I placed it under the rule of a reeve. King John then granted a charter to Great Yarmouth in 1208, followed by a charter of admiralty jurisdiction that was granted by Edward VI in 1552.
During the First World War, when aerial bombardment was delivered in the UK by Zeppelin L3, Great Yarmouth was the first to suffer. The opposite happened during the Second World War, because the town was the last significant place where Germans could drop bombs before heading home. Despite all these, much of the town survived. Flooding, however, proved to be more destructive than bombs. During the North Sea flood of 1953, Yarmouth was badly affected, and flooding has been a problem since then. The last flooding risk happened in the evening of December 2013.
Beaches and Piers
Since Yarmouth is a seaside resort, it has 15 miles of sandy beach that stretches from Winterton-on-Sea on the north to Hopton-on-Sea in the south. Along the coastline, you will find sand dunes and seaside amusements. Most of the beaches in Yarmouth are known as some of the best in East Anglia, with The Pleasure Beach taking the spotlight, what with it being Britain’s top tourist attractions.
The long stretch of beach is separated by the Britannia Pier on the northern end and the Wellington Pier towards the southern end. Both piers are key focal points in Yarmouth.
Countryside Villages and Broads

Several villages serve as haven for bird and wildlife, providing the perfect locale to commune with nature. There are plenty of longer walks in a number of villages where you can enjoy the view of a wide expanse of green decorated with Yarmouth flowers on one side, and tranquil waters on the other.
