Woolton was originally a village called Much Woolton, which was later incorporated with Liverpool back in 1913. Back in 1189 Woolton was used for 350 years to house the Knights of St John of Jerusalem, who were a religious order that protected routes that Christians would take that were on a pilgrimage to The Holy Land.

Woolton is most notably known as the place where Beatles star John Lennon spent most of his childhood. He lived with his Aunt and Uncle who would provide him with short stories and a local dairyman gave him a mouth organ. It was in 1957 that John first met Paul McCartney at the Woolton St Peter's Church, where Johns band The Quarrymen invited Paul up as a rhythm guitarist. Later George Harrison joined the band in 1958 and they adopted the name The Beatles in 1960.

St Peter's Church in Woolton is part of the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour, and Woolton contains many other recognisable Beatles landmarks such as Strawberry Field which was originally a Salvation Army children's home which closed in 2005, and is a very popular place with Beatles fans to visit throughout the year.
