Skellingthorpe is a small village that is 3 miles (5km) from Lincoln city centre in the English county of Lincolnshire. The earliest history of Skellingthorpe is at present unknown but there is evidence that a Roman settlement were in the area in C12 AD. The recording in the Doomsday book in 1086 records Skellingthorpe as 960 acres of plough land, common pasture, common land and woodland. During the 13th Century, there has been a place of worship as Robert de Weinflet was recorded as chaplain to the Church of Skellingthorpe in 1225.

Old Wood merges with Old Hag Wood. At the point where the two merge, there is an information board that states how the woodland floor is covered by bluebells, Lilly of the valley and yellow orchids in spring. In summer months’ dog’s mercury and enchanter nightshade is prominent.

Special events are held at Doddington Hall every spring and summer. The gardens are open to the public on Sundays from February through until March. The house and gardens are open to the public on Wednesdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays from March, 27th until September 28th. The gardens are also open on Sundays throughout October.
