Melton Ross is situated on the busy A18 which is close to junction 5 of the M180. Traffic through the area has increased due to the opening of the Humberside Airport, which is the former RAF Kirmington, in 1974.

HISTORY

The original name of Melton Ross was Medeltone which meant “middle farmstead.” The Ross part of the name is in reference to the de Ros family who used to own land in the village.

The de Ros family had a years long feud with a family from the nearby village of Kettleby, the Tyrwhit family. Legend says that the Tyrwhits attacked the Melton Ross Manor with 500 men in 1411. This feud continued even 200 years later which forced James I to put up a gallows located close to the village. The monarch ordered that any death resulting from the feud should be treated as murder. To this day, the gallows still stand and it's located between Melton Ross and Wrawby, a nearby village
