Covenham St. Bartholomew is a very small village located in Lincolnshire, on the eastern side of England. In 2011 there were only 192 residents recorded living here. The village is in the East Lindsey portion of the county, and is closest to Louth, a market town, an eight kilometre drive away. To the south is Covenham St Mary. Both villages are considered ecclesiastical parishes, and form a part of the civil parish of Covenham. The Prime Meridian passes just to the west of Covenham St. Bartholomew.

The manor of Covenham was endowed to the Covenham Priory in 1082 by William the Conqueror. Later, it was given to the Abbey of St. Carileph at Le Mans. In 1303 the priory ceased being profitable, so it was sold to Kirkstead Abbey.

The village has two Anglican churches, the Covenham St. Mary Church, and St. Bartholmew Church.

The Church of St. Mary is a Grade II listed building on the heritage site. It was dedicated to St. Mary and was built in the “Decorated Gothic” style of architecture. This style involves a lot of detail, including tracery on the window, and detailed carvings on walls and ceiling, with elaborate columns and capitals. The church has a tall rectangular tower on one side. The church underwent extensive restorations in 1901, and it is apparent where they have added in new blocks of stone to repair the tower.

The Church of St. Bartholomew is an Anglican church dedicated to St. Bartholomew, and sits in the Lincolnshire Wolds. This church has also been built in Decorated Gothic style in the 14th century. It has a low bell tower, much shorter than St. Mary’s. It was originally built to a cruciform architecture (cross), but no longer has its north transept. There are many notable features of this church, including a brass monument of Sir John Skypwth from 1415. He’s dressed in armour and holding, with a sword. This church had repairs, including new seats, done in 1863 by Rogers and Marsden of Louth. The church became redundant in the early 1980s due to St. Mary’s also being in the village.

During the 19th century, the village also had three methodist chapels: Wesleyan, Primitive, and Free Methodist.

The village contains many other listed buildings. Haith’s Farm House, a two-storey building, was built in the early 19th century of red brick. Mill House, built in the 16th century, was originally a bake house and mill, designed in a thatched roof style.

The villagers can enjoy strolling along a path that runs along the reservoir, to the northeast side of the village.
