The History of Blyborough

The village itself goes back several centuries when Lincolnshire was settled. While there is no formal date when Blyborough was founded, it can be stated that the nomadic people of the pre-Roman era wondered through this part of Lincolnshire.
Around the beginnings of the medieval era, the Blyborough Grade I listed the construction of an Anglican parish church which was dedicated to St. Alkmund of Northumbria. The church was built at some point in the early 13th century and partially rebuilt in 1877 by James Fowler. The establishment of the church verifies the settlement of the area which eventually became the village of Blyborough.

In addition, there are two Grade II listed buildings in the village as well, the Blyborough Grange Farmhouse and the more renowned Blyborough Hall that still occupies the land. The hall was constructed in the early part of the 18th century and was the home of the famed Luard family that had acquired its wealth over time thanks to the sugar plantations they owned in the West Indies. The Luard family called Blyborough home for several generations even though their wealth allowed them to live where they pleased.
