Market Harborough is a market town containing two villages, Great Bowden and Little Bowden. It’s located about 141 miles southwest of London in Leicestershire county. The Domesday book lists records for this area going back to 1199. There’s a modern foot and cycle path for residents to enjoy on a sunny day out. It meanders along the river canal. Two bays are listed as being built in 1903, and the last two in 1912, as an addition, due to the expanding neighbourhood. A large sign still remains above the first two windows saying, “URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL FIRE STATION / 1903”. They never moved it, even after the second set of bays were added in 1912.

More history can be seen at The Old Grammar School, which dates back to 1607, and the current building finished in 1614. It was originally built on wooden stilts, because apparently the butter market needed to take place beneath the building. Somehow they’ve managed to preserve the stilts part of this old school, so it still stands this way. There are scriptures from the bible which run around the length of all sides of the building. Today, the current school has relocated to a different part of town, but you can still visit the Old Grammar School to get a taste of what school was like in the past.

St. Dionysius Church was the center of worship in Church Square in Market Harborough. It dates back to the the 14th century. This English church is dedicated to St. Dionysius. Feel free to drop in and have a look.
