Another rich merchant by the name of Simon Eyre, Lord Mayor of London in 1455, built a chapel, granary, and school to service those coming to the market to buy fresh food.
Leadenhall continued to grow as a natural centre for commerce. The wrought iron and glass structure today was designed by Sir Horace Jones, architect and surveyor for the City of London Corporation, in 1881.
