Woodchurch is dominated by a large housing development. It is an area of Birkenhead, a town that is home to Birkenhead Park (the first publicly funded park in Britain). History

Woodchurch was once a farming area as well as an ancient village of the Wirral Hundred. It was known mostly for its parish church as well as Arrowe Park country estate which it neighbours.

The first recorded owner of the land was Aescwulf, an Anglo-Saxon chief. He claimed ownership of Woodchurch, Arrowe and Landican. Woodchurch is not recorded in the Domesday Book but there is record of it as Wude Church in 1093.

The Birkenhead Corporation purchased the area in 1926 thus it became part of the Birkenhead civil parish. After the Second World War, a new housing estate was constructed along with shops, schools as well as industry and leisure facilities. Only the church and the adjoining school are what remain of the old village.
