Beltinge is a small hamlet located in the county of Kent. It encompasses the civil parish of Herne and Broomfield. Located in the southwest region of England, it’s part of the district of the City of Canterbury. It’s located about ten kilometres northeast of Canterbury. It sits right on the ocean overlooking Herne Bay, on low cliff tops that offer beautiful scenic views.

The hamlet is mostly residential, and has many surrounding fields. There are about 900 people living in this small hamlet. Beltinge, along with Herne, Bishopstone, and Hillborough are all connected together, without any boundaries in between.

To travel to Beltinge you can drive in on the A299 road, or take the North Kent railway line in. The train starts at Lewisham Vale and runs to Rochester Bridge Junction and connects to the Chatham Main Line.

Beltinge is close to Reculver. This tiny village only has a population of 135 people, but it used to have a Roman fort. A channel called the Isle of Thanet would provide safe boating options around the Middle Ages.

This hamlet sits on Beltinge Cliff which comprises a greater portion of the gently sloping cliffs that overlook Herne Bay. If one were to travel directly from London, they wouldn’t come across any cliffs until they reached Beltinge Cliff.

The region suffered from terrible floods in 1953. In February 1953 the Beltinge landslide occurred at night, and it damaged the tea gardens of the Miramar Hotel, as well as many other buildings along Herne Bay. Miramar Hotel is now a care facility.

For travellers and local residents wishing to enjoy some fresh air, they may walk along the pedestrian promenade that follows the northern regions of Kent. This is part of the Saxon Shore Way, and is just a small portion of the Kent coastal long-distance walk that is so popular with people in this region.

Travellers can enjoy walking along a small part of the path, or attempt a long journey to complete it. To reach this path you need to climb up three sets of stairs that connect the promenade with Beltinge and Herne Bay. The footpath begins in Gravesend and follows along the coast of southeast England. The pedestrian can walk to as far as Hastings, East Sussex. This long route comprises over 262 kilometres.

When walking along the Saxon Shore Way there are many interesting sites, including ancient Roman forts, nature reserves, towns, and the coastline.

Beltinge has one church, the Beltinge Baptist Church, located on Reculver Road. This community has been around for over 112 years, but the church is located in a modern building today.
