The Shin Falls Visitor Centre was constructed to help the tourists who visit the region a place that provides all the information on this area. The Achany Glen is a mixture of broadleaf and conifer forest that lies just to the west. Inside the glen you’ll find the Riverside Walk which will take you along the many different glades that feature birch coppice, wood sorrel, moss and alders that create a stunning appearance when taken in as a whole. You can even visit the famed salmon leap viewpoint as you walk along the trail for an impressive view.

The Achany House, which is noted for being a Category B building constructed near the turn of the 19th century, is arguably the oldest known house in the area. The house itself has been renovated at least three times and the home was purchase in 1840 by a Sir James Matheson who added to the home during his ownership of the property. An upper floor was added in 1878 and an extension added in 1885. By 1948, the Ministry of Agriculture purchase the house for its uses and afterwards it became a hotel. Today, the property is back in private hands.

Construction on the wind farm began in 2009 and was completed a year later when all 19 turbines were erected and generate 38 megawatts of power. Launched in 2010, the Achany Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund was created by the developer of the wind farm, SSE, and is currently managed by the Scottish Community Foundation.
