History

According to historical records, a village existed before the 1700s but was wiped from the map due to a great storm. Old maps revealed a tidal mill and tidal pond which were destroyed during the natural disaster. Fortunately, Lepe Harbour withstood the ravaging storm and soon afterwards, a shipyard was built. Oyster trading became popular during this period.

Coastal Cottages and the Watch House were also built during those times, infrastructures that are up to these days, still exist.

Landmarks

One interesting place to try is the Lepe County Park which offers great views of the Isle of Wight.

Its main area is a grass lawn at the top of the cliff surrounded by pine trees and is a great area for picnics. Youngsters will also enjoy the playground here complete with monkey bars and swings. Teens and adults can also play football within the area. Also, from atop, visitor can have a view of the New Forest National Park.
 
Tourists will be taken back in time by the World War II ruins on Lepe Beach, near Cowes in Hampshire. Located just east of the Watch House, the main swimming area of this stony can be found at the east of the car park. To breathe fresh air and some cardiovascular exercise, you can also take a circular walk at the Lepe Loop for a taste of the coastal view and the countryside. The route can be explored in a two-hour leisure walk with your loved ones.
