Flower Delivery to Richmond Park by Clare Florist
If you want to see red and fallow deer with your own eyes, then a visit to Richmond Park in southwest London is a must. It was created by Charles I in 1634 as a deer park and now boasts of 630 red and fallow deer. It is a place that is not only for those who love animals, but for those who love to see flowers in Richmond Park as well.
Richmond Park is among many things, a National Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and a Special Area of Conservation. It is the largest of the Royal Parks in London. It is also a Grade I on the English Heritage's Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England.
Charles I brought his court to Richmond Palace in 1625 to escape the plague. He then turned the area on the hill above it into a park for the hunting of red and fallow deer. For a time, it was referred to as the king's “New Park” to distinguish it from an already existing park now known as the Old Deer Park.
In 1637, Charles I appointed Jerome Weston, Earl of Portland, as the keeper of the new park. When the monarch was executed, custodianship of the park was passed to the Corporation of the City of London. However, it was restored back to the monarch, Charles II, when he returned to London in 1660.
The park was for the most part, a private one. It was during the time of Edward VII when he developed the park into a public amenity.
Since 1915, there are areas in the park marked for football and cricket pitches. A golf course has also been developed which was then opened in 1923 by Edward, Prince of Wales.
During the 1848 Summer Olympics, a village was built near Dann's Pond. It saw another Olympic event in 2012 where it was part of the road where competitors of the men's and women's cycling race passed through.
Even though the Richmond Park flowers are pretty much the stand out to those who want colour and such, the place is also home to a couple of buildings that are worth a look:
Pembroke Lodge – This was once the home of Prime Minister Lord Him Russell then became the childhood home of his grandson, Bertrand Russell. Now, it serves as a popular restaurant that offers diners views across the Thames Valley. Given the scenery, it's a good place to spend a romantic date with your partner, and you can even make it extra special if you send flowers to Richmond Park as a surprise.
Thatched Lodge House – This was the London home of US General Dwight D. Eisenhower during the Second World War. It has been the residence of Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvy since 1963.
Plantings and Memorials in the Park
Isabella Plantation – This is an ornamental woodland garden that is full of exotic plants. Here, you can lay your eyes on a several Richmond Park flowers. This part of the park is open the whole year round. It is home to a variety of plants, including deciduous azalea, rhododendron, and winter flowers such as Witch Hazel and Autumn Cherry.
James Thomson bench – This was installed at the north end of the Pembroke Lodge Gardens and has a viewpoint overlooking the Petersham Park in an area known as Poet's Corner. It's a nice place to reflect or be with your partner. For an added bit of romance, you can hand them a couple of blooms or be really romantic and send flowers to Richmond Park.
