A bustling suburb north of Greater London, Hadley Wood is situated approximately 11 miles of Charing Cross, at the north north-west side and is proximal to Barnet. Hadley Wood in the Past
 
While Hadley Wood has become a suburb of Barnet and borders the Monken Hadley village, these two settlements did not originally belong together. Each has its own parish, both civil and ecclesiastical and belonged to distinct Boroughs and ecclesiastical Deaneries.
 
When it was founded in 1850, it was part of the Municipal Borough of Enfield and was historically linked to Cockfosters when it became part of the newly created Ward of Hadley Wood and Cockfosters in 1909. After the abolishment of the Municipal Borough in 1965, it was replaced by the London Borough of Enfield and became known as the Ward of Cockfosters.
 
Hadley Wood is still a part of the Cockfosters parish, in terms of ecclesiastical administration despite the existence of a small church dedicated to St. Paul located on Camlet Way and built in 1911. This proprietary chapel is independent of the parish of Cockfosters.
 
Hadley Wood in the Modern Times

Over the years, Hadley Wood is becoming a popular place to start a family or invest in a weekend family home. For more than two decades, many couples have bought small flats here to later invest bigger properties as their families grow. There is still the Hadley Wood railway station designed with four long platforms and is interestingly large for the community. Conversely, if you are a golfer, the 72-par golf course, designed by the designer of Augusta, venue of the U.S. Masters, is open for players and complete with a 19th hole Georgian clubhouse for guests.  Other sports clubs are the football club for youth teams and the lawn tennis club which is considered one of the oldest in the UK.
 
If you are not into sports and are more of a lover of nature, you can take your dog for a walk at the Trent Country Park, just off the Cockfosters Road. It used to be the hunting ground of Henry VIII. Explore the wooded gorges and forests to admire the beauty of nature, trees and flowers in Hadley Wood. This will also be the venue of the 51st State Festival on 5 August 2017 where you can get to listen to house music while in the countryside and amidst the green surroundings of the park.
