Barmulloch is a housing scheme north of the River Clyde in Glasgow. Previously a farm land till it was built in the 1930s through to the 1950s as a post war overspill housing area which featured prefabricated housing of mostly tenements, 4 storeys tall to the north and 4 in a block cottage flats to the southern part. However most of the tenements have been knocked down while the rest are in dilapidated state and soon to be demolished. Barmulloch shares the Red Road high rise flats with its neighboring district of Balornock.

Presently Barmulloch is undergoing series of renovation exercises which include demolition of tenement housing to make way for new houses with driveways and private gardens. Barmulloch Community Development Company supervises these developments. They own the old Barmulloch Tenants Hall in Quarrywood Road and also lease out the former Church Hall in Quarrywood Avenue for functions and events by the local community. Barmulloch’s population is just above 4000 with a high percentage of children below 15 compared to other areas in Glasgow. About 1750 households with about 60% in rented accommodations and over 34% owner occupied.

Barmulloch Community Centre

Barmulloch Community Centre is managed by Glasgow life for the Glasgow City Council as a resource for the local community. Built in 1973 and commissioned by Chief Constable David B. McNee. The venue has undergone upgrading internally in recent years to include the addition of a Glasgow Life Library which has 6 PCs for free public usage upon registration.

The community centre can be hired for different social, community and commercial events which include meetings, small conferences, classes, arts and crafts, classes, dance classes, birthday parties, sports activities, engagement parties, communion receptions, slimming clubs, engagement parties and many more. There are experienced staffs on hand at all times to help out with any special requirements. Smoking is not permitted at the centre or surrounding grounds and this is in line with Government policy.

Barmulloch Library

There a wide range of services and activities offered by the library in a relaxing, conducive and inspiring environment.  Friendly staffs are on hand to help you get the best from your visit. Opening hours are as follows: Monday: 1pm to 8pm, Tuesday: 10am to 5pm, Wednesday: 1pm to 8pm, Thursday: 10am to 5pm, Friday: 10am to 5pm, Saturday: 10am to 5pm, it closed throughout on Sunday.  At the Barmulloch Library, kids can apply for a Glasgow Kidz Card and Young Scot Card. The Glasgow Kidz Card enables kids between the ages of 5 and 11 and are living or schooling within Glasgow to enjoy discounts around Glasgow which include free swimming, movies and more. While the Young Scot Card  is free for kids between 12 and 18 years old living or schooling in the city. It also offers lots of special offers, discounts and services.

Barmulloch Health Walks

The Barmulloch Health Walk holds on Wednesdays at 7:30pm. It is a free, short, friendly walk up to 2 ½ miles long for all ages and led by experienced volunteers. This is a great way to take the first steps to living a healthier lifestyle and make new friends. People of all abilities are welcome to take part in the walk, routes could be adjusted where necessary to improve accessibility. Participants are required to call the contact person before the walk to confirm if it will go on as scheduled, they are to wear flat comfortable shoes and remember to take along any necessary medication on the walk. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Follow laid rules and respect the walk leaders.
