History

During the industrial revolution of the 19th century, Bonnybridge experienced great development. Several of the industries that were established in the area include chemical manufacturing, paper milling, refractory brick manufacture, sawmilling and whisky distilling.

The iron foundries were the most important establishments in Bonnybridge. The products from these foundries were transported though the Forth & Clyde Canal to local markets, as well as to Glasgow for export.

The town is served well by rail. Both the Glasgow to Edinburgh and Carlisle to Perth lines are located nearby. Bonnybridge became a centre for industrial production thanks to the canal and rail links.
