These structures are timber-framed, making their preservation significant. The rest of the church building dates to times that are more modern.

Nearby Basildon is the largest town in the borough. The town of Billericay sits to the north of Ramsden Bellhouse. In 1916 during WWI, a giant German Zeppelin airship was shot down during an air battle over Billericay. It crashed into a nearby field, barely missing the High Street.

The borough itself was created in 2010 and encompasses Ramsden Bellhouse, Wickford, Billericay and several other rural villages and settlements within its borders. Most serve as feeder communities to Greater London. Basildon Town is one of the more densely populated areas of the county.
