Barmston is a small village located in the East Riding of Yorkshire in England, on the upper eastern coast of the country. It shares the civil parish with Fraisthorpe. Together with Fraisthorpe the village had a population of 127 people in 2011. This village looks out on the North Sea, and is located on the Holderness coastline. The main road into town is the A165 Bridlington Road. One of the main industries in town is tourism, though there are still a few farms and a pub located in the village.

The village sits atop glacial deposits that have fertile soils perfect for agriculture. There are many large fields in Barmston, and each is bounded by large drainage ditches. This region has almost non-existent woodlands. The region is rural and has very flat and exposed low lands. The coastline is subject to great erosion, resulting in many buildings being demolished, to keep people safe. There are still several active farmsteads located in the region.

In 1870 the village manor belonged to Sir. H. Boynton. He converted the mansion to a farm house. There is nothing left of either building by this time.

The Barmton Beach used to be a popular bathing spot during the summer. In 2005 it won the Blue Flag award, for meeting stringent environmental guidelines. In 2010 it lost this designation due to the shoreline’s rapid erosion. It’s no longer an ideal spot for bathing, due to difficult driving access to reach the beach, but people can still walk in. There used to be a road leading to the beach, but now it’s under the sea. It might currently be the local’s best kept secret.

Despite the advance of the sea, Barmston, in the East Riding of Yorkshire,  is still a beautiful region to visit. Visitors to town can stay overnight at a caravan park that’s located near the beach. The park is located on former farm land. There is a children’s play area located beside the caravans, and often there are special celebrations with outdoor barbecue, musical entertainment, and bouncy castles for the children.

The village church is the All Saints Church. It’s in a Grade I listed and protected building, originally listed in 1966. The church dates prior to 1446, noted from an alabaster statue possibly dedicated to William Moneaux of Barnston. The church is built in perpendicular English style. It has a Norman porch door. There is also a monument dedicated to Sir Martin de la Mare.
