Flower Delivery to Easy Ayrshire by Clare Florist
East Ayrshire is one of the three places that make up the Ayrshire region. As part of a country renowned for its breathtaking scenery, expect to find some of nature’s wonders in this wonderful location, including flowers in East Ayrshire.
The history of East Ayrshire is best seen through its many early settlements. In Auchinleck, for one, is a community that has existed as far back as 1239. Unfortunately, the records about Auchinleck’s history that can be considered reliable are dated only in 1504, during which time the Boswell family arrived. Then there’s Kilmarnock, which is the 15th most populated places in Scotland. Remains of the settlement suggest that the early town appears earlier than 17th century. The comparatively modest community extended around 1800 onwards.
As for materials that outline the history of East Ayrshire, the Burns Monument Centre and Dick Institutes house some of them. In both places, there are local newspapers that date as far back as 1834, along with a selection of maps, and film readers/microfiche. There are also local photographs and postcards at the Burns Monument Centre.
Places of Interest
Kay Park - This is where you’ll likely find an abundance of East Ayrshire flowers, decorating the 30-acre park in Kilmarnock. It features a duck pond, play area for the children and a network of parks and avenues lined with trees. It was given to the burgh by Alexander Kay, a local insurance broker, thus, the name.
It may be a place for leisure now, but it’s not without its share of dark past. In1818 December, in the site of the present monument is where 6000 people met to stage a protest on the way Scotland was poorly represented in the parliament. A lot of protesters were imprisoned, particularly those that published speeches of dissent.
Castle and Barony of Robertland - Although nothing more stands in its place but a few stone ruins, the Robertland castle and barony remain to be a prominent feature in East Ayrshire. If the old castle stood to this day, it would have featured six storeys built in one massive square. It would also have a defensive keep surrounded by a moat that is easily flooded by the Swinsey Burn, which courses through the castle.
An impressive feature of the ruins today is the walled garden that not only houses flowers in East Ayrshire, but also a gargoyle, stone with a mason’s mark and a rounded projectile of sandstone.
Loch Doon - This is a freshwater lake in Carrick, Scotland, which receives water from Loch Enoch via Engin Lane. It was dammed during the 1930s, raising the water as high as 27 feet, to provide seasonal storage for the Galloway hydroelectric power scheme. It used to be the site of Balloch Castle, but the ruins have been moved to the shore to protect them from the rising water.
Dalmore House and Estate - A country house and small estate in the Parish of Stair, this relatively small estate was part of the Barony of Gaitgirth. Some of its prominent features include the old entrance way to the Dalmore House, which is lined with trees and several East Ayrshire flowers, old entrance to the lodge house, the ruins, the armorial panel, memorial to the Heron and memorial of the Montgomerie family of Dalmore House. It was in the early part of the 60s that the estate was declared uninhabitable due to dry rot that riddles the entire place.
