In Dorset, there is a little town called Radipole. Surrounded by typical British forests and pastures, it is seated at the mouth of Radipole Lake, which eventually leads out to Weymouth Harbour. The River Wey feeds into the lake and is one of the most distinguishing features of the area. It is probably the river that brought the first people here, in prehistoric times and it was definitely what brought Roman invaders here during their occupation of Britain. It is likely that the Romans used the lake and river as a port and as transportation, as evidenced by the burial site found in the play field of the local primary school.

There is also a road, build by Romans, near Radipole, which indicates that the first people who really settled here were probably Romans, and that after their occupation of the area ended, Radipole stood abandoned for some years.

Road building over the last century has largely influenced the population in this area. While there has been a church here in since 1606, the population was sparse and consisted mostly of farmers who used the wide open pasture for their animals and for grown crops. While other surrounding villages have grown faster and have attracted more inhabitants, Radipole still retains much of the first village and its buildings that were built in this area. The church, called the church of Saint Ann, and some of the local manors, are beautifully preserved and are great examples of the architecture of their time.

It is believed that there were many Roman burial and archeological sites in the area, but many of them were destroyed during early construction in the area.

Radipole may not be a busy city, but it has all the charm of the British countryside, including a historical graveyard and a unique church. Yellow daisies cover much of the hills during the summer.
