Chagford is a small town in the heart of Devon that lies on the north east side of Dartmoor, England. The word chagford is derived from the word chag which means gorse or broom and the word ford indicates the importance of its place as a crossing place over river Teign.

The archaeological remains prove the existence of a community more than 4000 years. The chagford town came into being from the wool trade and tin mining in the area and sooner was made a statutory town for the tin trading in that area. Even in the year 1987 it was reported that chagford believed to contain the most radioactive loo in the world.
