HISTORY

Little Stainton was part of the parish of Bishopston for much of its history. As such, the village didn't have its own parish church. This also meant that those who wanted to attend religious services needed to journey to Bishopston to do so.

Although quite a small village today, Little Stainton was bigger in the medieval period, about 1066 to 1540. There are many remains of buildings from that time in town but some of them were destroyed between 1991 and 1992.

Not much is known of Little Stainton's history. It was mainly an agricultural area in the post-medieval period but a large brick and tile works did exist in the area in the 19th century.
