At this time, Flint Cross becomes known for the quarry and for the large number of farmers that worked in this area. Many of them sold their product in Royston.  This area was used by RAF for combat missions during the World War 2. Today Flint Cross is home to a couple of hundred of residents.

Flint Cross is located 50 miles north of London. The nearest train station is located in Foxton, about 5 miles north of Flint Cross.

The milestone

Since this place is known as an important crossroad, it is quite logical to find a milestone here. The milestone at Flint Cross was erected in the beginning of the 18th century. Today this is a Grade II listed structure. There are several other milestones in this area and they are located by the road from Barkway to Cambridge. There is an old inscription on the side of this milestone that shows the elevation above mean sea level.

Bran Ditch

Bran Ditch also known as Heydon Ditch is a well-known Anglo-Saxon earthwork located very close to Flint Cross. Although the ditch was damaged because of the agriculture works in this area, there are still clear signs of its presence in the past. According to a recent archeological research, this ditch was constructed in the 6th century and it was probably used as a defensive structure.  The ditch is home to many different animals and plants.
