Little Missenden stands out in terms of medieval architecture as well.  The Missenden Abbey, which stands to this day and is used for events, weddings, and other gatherings, was first erected in 1133 and originally used as an Augustinian monastery. It was badly damaged during the Dissolution of the Monasteries that occurred between 1536 and 1541. What remained after the Dissolution was used in the construction of a Georgian mansion which is what stands in its place today.
