History

Dorney is described as “a parish in Eton district, Bucks; on the river Thames, at the boundary with Berks, near the Great Western railway, 2½ miles WNW of Eton” in the Imperial Gazetter of England and Wales by John Marius Wilson.

Dorney Lake – a short walk away from Dorney Court. The lake is known as the Eton College Rowing Centre or Eton Dorney. It was also a venue for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Dorney Lake is privately owned and financed by Eton College who primarily use it. However, it is also hired out for rowing and other activities such as canoeing, dragon boating, open water swimming and triathlon.

Dorneywood Garden – this National Trust property is a 1930s-style garden that features herbaceous borders, a cottage garden and a lily pond.

Royal Windsor Racecourse – one of two figure-of-eight courses in the United Kingdom. It is a thoroughbred horse racing venue.
