Located in the southeastern region of England, Midgham is a small village on the north side of Kennet river. The village is picturesque and covers the slopes and alluvial plains of the region. The closest towns nearby are Thatcham, Berkshire, and Newbury. The easiest way to drive to the village is on the M4. In the 2011 census, 334 villagers were recorded as living in this area.

On the river is Midgham Lock, which is on a narrow canal on the Kennett. A road bridge covers it on both sides. The lock was built from 1718 to 1723. The water can rise and fall between seven feet. The lock draws the water from the valley. There are also many other small watercourses that flow along the village. There are more lakes, and rivers in Midgham than there are roads.

The village is surrounded by woods. On the northwestern side is the Midgham Wood, and on the northeastern side is Channel Wood. The rest of the village is made up of green spaces, with cultivated lands, pastures, and hay fields. Midgham Marsh is located on the southern part of A4 road, and Midgham Green to the north of town.

Right in the centre of town is Midgham House on Midgham Park. This land has many green grassy fields and trees. It has an older building, with a stable from the 15th century, that has been built onto over the years. These buildings are situated on a large private landscaped park. Many notable families have lived in Midgham House over the years. Benjamin Buck Greene owned the estate in 1856, and he later became the Governor of the Bank of England. He was responsible for the build of the new church in 1869.

St. Matthews Parish Church looks like from an older time, but was actually built in 1869, in 13th century style. A small graveyard is located on one side.

Not many Roman finds have been found in the village, but there is an old Roman road located in Midgham Marsh. The Domesday book records Midgham as being a township in Thatham Parish in 1086. There used to be a watermill located in town, and it had a value of fourteen shillings per year. The watermill was granted by William the Conqueror to Giles Pinkney.  He lost his land for rebellion against King John, but Henry III eventually gave his land back to him.

There are some records that state that the Knights Templar may have met in this region, but that’s the extent of the information.
