Landmarks

Curridge Playground – developed by three local gentlemen George Barlow, Major Bishop and Mr Williams. They bought the open space and formed the playground trust tasked to build the children’s playground that the people wanted. The playground still exists to this day, but is now under a board of Trustees and an umbrella of Parish Council.

Rookery Farm - also known as the Curridge Farm. In the 1960s, it was run as a traditional dairy farm by Osgood siblings Harry, Frank and Kate, until demands for arable units changed things. The farm remains as an arable unit, but the old buildings have been replaced by modern ones.

Curridge WI Hall – built in 1953. Before the WI (Women’s Institute) rented land from the Church Commissioners, monthly meetings were held in schools. In 1953, in time for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, WI purchased land and built the Curridge WI Hall. It served as venue for games, competitions, races and tea parties during the coronation. It is still used for events and festivals to this day.

The New Inn – is a pub where workers at the brickworks were known to have “bunked off”. That is, they go out for a lunch break but don’t come back to work. This is why the name was changed to the Bunk Inn in 1988.

Curridge Park – used to be the site of the Curridge Brickworks owned by the Maidenhead Brick Company. Before it was developed into a park, it was used for a haulage and recovery business, and then into a small light industrial area that housed several businesses, including Dixons furniture store, Curridge Car Sales and Mike Lawrence Farm Machinery.
