HISTORY

There are two parts to the estate which are divided by Hill Rise. Of these two parts, the older one is commonly called “The Avenues” and as the name suggests, it is composed of straight avenues. The first one to be built was the Fourth Avenue and was constructed in the 1920s. The rest were constructed in the 1930s. Two decades after, the newer ones were built and this time and were named after mountains and hills such as Pennine Avenue and Grampian Way.

Dunstable Downs – this is the destination of choice for kite fliers, hang gliders and paragliders because its elevation is 797 feet. It also has rare species of flowers, including wild flowers and different species of butterflies. Visitors can climb the hills as well as enjoy riding off-road bikes and horses at the Ickneild Way Trail.

Sundon Park Baptist Church – this is a place of worship and prayer where visitors can also experience a singing café. Since the church members wanted to serve the community, they thought of coming up with a café where they also sing for their guests.

Wardown Park Museum – this is located in Luton and used to be called the Luton Museum of Art & Gallery. The museum can be found inside a Victorian mansion just on the outskirts of the town centre.

Someries Castle – located in Hyde, this structure was constructed by Sir John Wenlock during the 15th century. It was called a castle despite not really being one. It is in fact a manor house, one wherein the ghost of Sir John Wenlock is said to haunt.

Wrest Park – situated near Silsoe, Bedfordshire, this estate has a Grade l listed country house as well as a garden known as Wrest Park Gardens. These are beautiful formal gardens adorning the mansion.

Mossman Collection – this is actually a museum with a collection of horse-drawn carriages and is the largest collection of that kind in the UK from the 18th to the 20th centuries.
